Governor Rosselló announces federal extension of the FHA mortgage moratorium program
(March 1, 2018 - La Fortaleza, San Juan) Governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, informed that the secretary of the United States Department Housing and Urban Development, Ben Carson, confirmed a 60-day extension of the foreclosure moratorium of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) program in Puerto Rico.
This moratorium will help hundreds of thousands of people living in Puerto Rico with limited incomes, as well as elderly people who faced the ravages of Hurricane Maria.
According to data, by December 2017 a third of homeowners experienced a delay in their mortgage payments and about 90,000 people are delinquent in their payments.
"My thanks to secretary Carson for extending the moratorium so that American citizens living on the Island receive a relief and are not exposed to losing their homes during the recovery process after the impact of two catastrophic hurricanes," concluded the chief executive after holding a phone conversation with the federal official.
