Gobernador Rosselló Nevares convierte en ley medida para incluir cursos de lenguaje de señas en escuelas públicas

(24 de enero de 2018 – La Fortaleza, San Juan) El gobernador Ricardo Rosselló Nevares firmó el Proyecto del Senado 606 que establece incluir un curso de lenguaje de señas en el currículo de las escuelas del Departamento de Educación en todos los niveles.

De igual forma, la medida —de la autoría del senador del Partido Independentista Puertorriqueño, Juan Dalmau Ramírez— promueve que las escuelas privadas incluyan cursos similares en sus currículos.

“En el Plan para Puerto Rico nos comprometimos a iniciar un proyecto de adiestramiento en lenguaje de señas que impactara a la comunidad escolar para permitir la integración de esta población en todas las fases de la sociedad. Esta medida del compañero Dalmau Ramírez es de vital importancia para promover una sociedad más justa y sensible”, señaló Rosselló Nevares.

Por su parte, el senador Dalmau Ramírez expresó que “esta medida, producto de un diálogo amplio con sectores de la comunidad sorda, es un paso justo y digno en el proceso de reivindicar una comunidad históricamente marginada. Queda mucho por caminar, pero es un paso indispensable en la dirección correcta”.

Asimismo, el senador independentista añadió que “la ley busca romper prejuicios y adoptar como parte del currículo escolar una cultura de inclusión. Agradezco al gobernador su apertura al diálogo sobre esta medida y su apoyo al hoy convertirla en ley”.

Este proyecto fue trabajado por el senador de minoría junto al Ejecutivo para corregir una versión anterior que el gobernador vetó, pues levantaba preocupaciones fiscales al Departamento de Educación.

“Agradezco al senador Dalmau Ramírez por trabajar esta medida y lograr la aprobación de tan loable política pública para el beneficio de nuestros niños y para la sociedad en general”, concluyó el primer ejecutivo.
