Governor Rosselló meets with mayor of Orlando and visits Puerto Rican medical community
(January 12, 2018 - Orlando, Florida) The governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, met today with the mayor of Orlando, Buddy Dyer, to discuss the work the city has done to welcome Puerto Rican families who arrived there after Hurricane Maria passed through the Island.
The governor detailed the recovery process of Puerto Rico, while expressing his gratitude to the mayor for opening the doors of their schools to the Puerto Rican students who moved to his city.
"I want to thank mayor Buddy Dyer for his leadership and commitment to the Puerto Rican community that resides in Orlando. This city has received a large number of Puerto Ricans before and after the passage of Hurricane Maria through the Island and mayor Dyer has been a great ally," said Rosselló.
Orlando is one of the cities in the state of Florida with the largest Puerto Rican population.
After the passage of Hurricane Maria through the Island, mayor Dyer’s administration has been active in collecting supplies to send to those affected by the atmospheric event, in collaboration with the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) and United for Puerto Rico, among other organizations.
On the other hand, as part of his visit to Florida, the governor spent time with the medical community of Advantage Medical Group in Kissimmee, a clinic with a large number of staff and patients from Puerto Rico.
Later, the chief executive visited Knox Medical Cultivation and Processing Facility. This Sunday, Knox Medical inaugurates its first medical cannabis dispensary in San Juan, creating jobs and facilitating treatments for patients in Puerto Rico.
The center in Florida will give continuity to the treatments of Puerto Rican patients who move to this state.
The governor is in Florida as part of an effort to organize Puerto Ricans residing in the United States to form an active political force in the United States in favor of the Island.
On repeated occasions, the governor has asked Puerto Ricans living outside of the Island to use their voice and their vote as a powerful tool of democracy for the benefit of Puerto Rico, facing the upcoming midterm elections in the federal Congress.
