Frente Por Puerto Rico concluye segundo día de reuniones del Subcomité de Reforma Contributiva

(13 de septiembre de 2017 – Washington, DC) El Subcomité de Reforma Contributiva del Frente Por Puerto Rico continuó hoy su agenda de reuniones en la capital federal, con la participación de los exgobernadores Aníbal Acevedo Vilá y Alejando García Padilla, además del Secretario y la Subsecretaria del Departamento de Hacienda, Raúl Maldonado y Roxana Cruz.

Las reuniones fueron encabezadas por la Administración de Asuntos Federales del Gobierno de Puerto Rico (PRFAA, por sus siglas en inglés) y la oficina de la Comisionada Residente, Jenniffer González-Colón, y estuvieron enfocadas en insertar a Puerto Rico en la discusión sobre la reforma contributiva federal.

La reforma contributiva fue una de las promesas de campaña del ahora presidente Donald J. Trump.

"Respondiendo al llamado de nuestro gobernador Ricardo Rosselló, hemos comenzado con una serie de reuniones sumamente productivas con importantes líderes y figuras del gobierno federal, las cuales han expresado su total interés en ayudarnos en la situación fiscal que Puerto Rico y nuestro pueblo se encuentra. Continuaremos esta semana haciendo lo propio y esperamos regresar a la Isla con buenos resultados", declaró Raúl Maldonado, Secretario de Hacienda.

Dado que la actual ley de SCHIP, un programa médico infantil similar al Medicaid, expira próximamente, los integrantes de la coalición también informaron a los congresistas sobre el grave problema del precipicio fiscal en fondos de Medicare y Medicaid en Puerto Rico.

“Somos conscientes del inminente precipicio fiscal en fondos de salud, y en cada visita que mi oficina hace al Congreso siempre enfatizamos la importancia de incluir a Puerto Rico en la reautorización del SCHIP”, informó Carlos Mercader, director ejecutivo de PRFAA.

Los miembros del Frente que participaron de los encuentros fueron Nicolas Prouty, presidente de Putnam Bridge; Iván Báez, en representación de Walmart; John Momtley, consultor de Asociación de Restaurantes de Puerto Rico; Jerry Weller, en representación de la Asociación de Industriales de Puerto Rico; Ramón Ponte, presidente de la Sociedad de Contadores Públicos Autorizados.

Por parte de PRFAA, las reuniones fueron lideradas por George Laws García, Luis Dávila Pernas, Josué Rivera, Diego Sánchez Gallardo y Justin Higgins.

Estos se reunieron con los senadores Debbie Stabenow, Bill Nelson y Mark Warner. En la Cámara, visitaron las oficinas de Mike Bishop, Kristi Noem, José Serrano, Devin Nunes, Diane Black, Joyce Beatty, John Larson, Sam Johnson y Carlos Curbelo.

El Gobernador de Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló Nevares, viajará a Washington esta noche para unirse a las gestiones del Frente Por Puerto Rico durante el día de mañana.
