Puerto Rico atiende llamado de asistencia de las Islas Vírgenes Británicas

(11 de septiembre de 2017 - Washington, DC) El empresario británico Sir Richard Branson se comunicó directamente con el Gobernador Ricardo Rosselló para solicitar la asistencia del Gobierno de Puerto Rico ante el ambiente de inseguridad que se vive en las Islas Vírgenes Británicas.

“Estos llamados de asistencia que estamos recibiendo desde las Islas Vírgenes Británicas, Islas Vírgenes de Estados Unidos, San Martín y St. Maarten evidencian que el Gobierno de Puerto Rico es líder en manejo de emergencias en la región caribeña”, declaró el Director ejecutivo de la Administración de Asuntos Federales del Gobierno de Puerto Rico (PRFAA, por sus siglas en inglés), Lcdo. Carlos Mercader.

Los llamados de asistencia de jurisdicciones extranjeras se están manejando desde PRFAA quien, en colaboración con las autoridades federales, está en proceso de obtener los permisos necesarios para poder enviar ayuda.

Desde el sábado en la tarde, el Gobierno de Puerto Rico, en colaboración con diversas agencias federales, ha establecido un centro de manejo de emergencias en el Aeropuerto Luis Muñoz Marín y ha asistido a evacuar más de mil ciudadanos, en su mayoría americanos, desde la isla franco-holandesa de San Martín.
