En Mayagüez la nueva Avenida Juan Mari Brás

2 de agosto de 2013 – La Fortaleza – El gobernador Alejandro García Padilla convirtió en ley el Proyecto de la Cámara 553 que denomina la carretera PR-3108 en Mayagüez con el nombre del ilustre puertorriqueño Juan Mari Brás.

La “Avenida Juan Mari Brás” discurre desde la carretera PR-2 hasta la intersección con la carretera PR-108 del Barrio Miradero en la Sultana del Oeste.

“Las contribuciones de Don Juan Mari Brás son innumerables al pueblo de Puerto Rico a través de las letras, el periodismo, la cátedra y el desarrollo constitucional de nuestra Nación. Es innegable que es merecedor de los honores que a los hombres y mujeres ilustres se les hacen”, expresó García Padilla.

Según la Exposición de Motivos, la Comisión de Estructuras y Vías Públicas, el departamento de Transportación y Obras Públicas y la Autoridad de Carreteras y Transportación tomarán las medidas necesarias para dar cumplimiento con las disposiciones de ésta Ley.

Juan Mari Brás, nació en Mayagüez el 2 de diciembre de 1927. Durante su adolescencia fundó el Capítulo de Agregados Pro Independencia (CAPI).

Más tarde, en el Colegio de Abogados, fue miembro de distintas comisiones que lo hicieron merecedor de numerosos reconocimientos y del respeto de sus colegas. Mari Brás murió el 10 de septiembre de 2010.

Tras la aprobación del primer ejecutivo esta ley entra en vigor de forma inmediata.
