Se activa la Guardia Nacional para extinguir fuego forestal en Gurabo

30 de julio de 2015 – La Fortaleza – El secretario de Prensa de La Fortaleza, Jesús Manuel Ortiz González, informó hoy que la Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico fue activada con el propósito de levantar una operación conjunta con el Cuerpo de Bomberos de Puerto Rico y la Agencia Estatal para el Manejo de Emergencias y Administración de Desastres (AEMEAD) para controlar el fuego forestal que se ha desatado en Gurabo. El siniestro afecta los terrenos de la Estación Experimental Agrícola de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Gurabo, el Polígono de la Academia de la Policía y varias urbanizaciones en los alrededores.

Con esta acción, autorizada por la Orden Ejecutiva 2014-16, los helicópteros y otros recursos de la Guardia Nacional, como la policía militar y su ingeniería, podrán ser utilizados para los trabajos de extinción. Además, la orden faculta a las agencias involucradas en esta gestión a utilizar todos los recursos imperativos para lograr la extinción del fuego en toda la zona, salvaguardando siempre la vida y seguridad de los residentes aledaños a los terrenos.

El Cuerpo de Bomberos y AEMEAD se encuentran en el lugar desde horas de la tarde de ayer, cuando se originó el incendio. Con el apoyo de la Guardia Nacional, las brigadas desarrollarán una operación aérea para, desde el aire, arrojar agua sustraída del Río de Gurabo.
