Gobernador visita a Oscar López Rivera

4 de octubre de 2014 – Indiana, EE.UU. – El gobernador Alejandro García Padilla, junto al congresista puertorriqueño Luis Gutiérrez, visitó hoy en prisión a Oscar López Rivera, el preso político de más antigüedad en Estados Unidos. Esta acción del mandatario es en representación del pueblo de Puerto Rico y del respeto que nuestra gente tiene a los postulados de una sociedad democrática y a la excarcelación de Oscar López Rivera, de 71 años.

“Hace 33 años, Oscar López Rivera fue encarcelado por actuaciones no vinculadas con actos de violencia. En más de una ocasión, y por medio de diferentes actividades multitudinarias y gestiones con las más altas esferas del gobierno estadounidense, los puertorriqueños hemos solicitado al presidente Barack Obama la excarcelación de López Rivera; hoy reiteramos ese llamado”, enfatizó García Padilla.

Oscar López Rivera lleva 33 años encarcelado, 12 de los que pasó en solitario.

“La condena impuesta a Oscar López Rivera no es solo excesiva, sino que lacera los principios de justicia, humanidad y sensibilidad. Es tiempo de que Oscar regrese a casa”, afirmó el gobernador.
