Gobernador viaja a Washington para combatir recortes al programa Medicare

9 de junio de 2015 – La Fortaleza – El gobernador Alejandro García Padilla partió hacia Washington DC donde se reunirá con funcionarios del gobierno federal para abordar temas como los recortes de fondos al programa de Medicare en la Isla, la inclusión de Puerto Rico en el Capítulo 9 de la Ley de Quiebras federal y varios proyectos de infraestructura.

“Esta determinación del gobierno federal es injusta. Es injusta con nuestros ciudadanos de edad avanzada que pagaron igual y van a recibir menos.Esa injusticia la vamos a combatir y yo voy a seguir trabajando con una coalición del sector privado –una coalición no partidista– que está trabajando desde Washington para subsanar esa injusticia que el Departamento de Salud de los Estados Unidos está cometiendo con nuestros viejos", sostuvo García Padilla mientras se dirigía ante un grupo de estudiantes que participan en el internado legislativo de verano.

"Hoy parto a Washington y uno de los temas que vamos a atender es ese. Yo tengo la mejor relación con el presidente Obama y la voy a continuar teniendo, pero lo que es injusto es injusto”, añadió.

Entre los compromisos del primer ejecutivo se encuentran varias reuniones con funcionarios del Departamento de Salud y del Departamento de Transportación.

El secretario del Departamento de Estado, Hon. David Bernier, fungirá como gobernador interino hasta el sábado 13 de junio.
