Expresiones del Gobernador sobre medida de Casa Blanca

21 de octubre de 2015 - Washington D.C. - El gobernador, Alejandro García Padilla, autorizó las siguientes expresiones luego de darse a conocer la propuesta de Casa Blanca para que Puerto Rico pueda renegociar su deuda.

"Reconozco el paso histórico de la Administración del Presidente Obama que hoy ha presentado un conjunto de medidas que incluye, trato justo en Medicaid, acceso al Earned Income Tax Credit para fomentar el empleo de los puertorriqueños, y un andamiaje legal para reestructurar nuestra deuda de forma ordenada. Estas medidas son una respuesta a los planteamientos que hemos hecho al Ejecutivo federal y al Congreso durante tres años, y tienen el apoyo de mi administración.

En cuanto a la propuesta de una Junta de Supervisión federal, corresponde evaluarla con mucho detenimiento para asegurarnos que la misma “respete la autonomía de Puerto Rico”, según reza el informe, y cumpla con los principios democráticos de nuestra relación con los Estados Unidos.

En esa dirección, mi gobierno presentó legislación para la creación de una junta local que sí cumple con el estado de derecho vigente. Sin embargo, corresponde tener una discusión amplia en Washington y Puerto Rico sobre esta nueva propuesta".
