Comisionada de Seguros respalda medida para emitir licencias sin importar el estatus migratorio del solicitante

San Juan – 18 de febrero de 2013 – La comisionada de Seguros, Ángela Weyne respaldó hoy que la propuesta del gobernador Alejandro García Padilla de enmendar la Ley de Vehículos y Tránsito para que no se requiera información sobre el estatus migratorio de una persona a la hora de solicitar una licencia de conducir.

“La Oficina del Comisionado de Seguros respalda y aplaude esta medida porque ayudara a que haya menos accidentes no cubiertos por razón de que en el accidente fuera ocasionado por un conductor sin licencia. De esta forma todas las personas que residen en Puerto Rico, irrespectivo de su estatus migratorio, podrán solicitar y obtener una licencia de conducir y asegurarse que de tener un accidente, pueden responder por los daños si ellos los causaron o recibir compensación si ellos fueron los perjudicados”, indicó Weyne.

Medidas similares se han implantado en estados como Washington, Illinois y Nuevo México como herramienta para trabajar con el problema de conductores sin seguro al momento de ocurrir un accidente de tránsito.
