Celebran primera cosecha en huertos escolares de Lajas y Cabo Rojo

26 de marzo de 2014 - Cabo Rojo - La primera dama, Wilma Pastrana Jiménez, celebró hoy la primera cosecha de varios huertos escolares en el suroeste de la isla. Pastrana Jiménez visitó la Escuela James Garfield en el Municipio de Cabo Rojo, donde compartió junto a los estudiantes, padres y maestros al presentar las iniciativas relacionadas a los Proyectos de Vida.

Luego se trasladó al Municipio de Lajas para visitar la Escuela Ramón Olivares. Allí, al igual que en el primer plantel, la Primera Dama aprovechó para acompañar a los alumnos en el proceso de recolección de su primera siembra en el espacio que fue habilitado gracias al acuerdo colaborativo entre el proyecto Siembra Vida y el programa Agro Juvenil 2.0 de la Autoridad de Tierras y el Departamento de Agricultura.

Los alimentos recogidos fueron entregados en el comedor escolar de cada plantel para la confección de su próximo almuerzo.

"Les exhorto a que continúen sembrando y cosechando buenos frutos y a que hagan crecer su huerto porque es para su beneficio y el de toda su comunidad", expresó Pastrana Jiménez.

Los estudiantes también recibieron varias orientaciones y demostraciones a cargo del programa Actívate, del Departamento de Recreación y Deportes, una charla del Departamento de la Familia sobre sana alimentación y consejos prácticos del Departamento de Agricultura para sembrar y reciclar en su nuevo huerto.
